Lead in tiles, tubs, and sinks
Tiles, tubs, and sinks are not typically tested for lead in lead-based paint inspections. This is because if there is lead, it is sealed within the tile enamel and isn’t attributed to child lead poisoning. However, it is still good for inspectors to check these components because the enamel coating could be disturbed during renovations. Always discuss this possibility with your renovator. It is also important to keep in mind that some tubs, especially older ones, have been painted. This paint is not part of the enamel coating (thus not sealed away) and could cause a lead hazard. Look for peeling or chipping paint, especially on the outside of the tub.
