How Much Lead Poisons a Child?
Currently in New Hampshire a blood lead level of 5 ug/dl is considered a poisoning for children under the age of seven. So how much lead really is 5 micrograms per deciliter? If you were to break up a penny into 2 million pieces, each of those pieces would be a microgram. By adding 5 of those little pieces into a little less than half a cup of water (which is close to a deciliter) you would have 5 ug/dl. It only takes a small amount of lead to cause a poisoning.
