Lead Paint on Siding & the Paintshaver Pro

Looking to stabilize the the paint on your wood siding so you can add a fresh coat? Using the Paintshaver Pro, a siding planer, was the best method I found to do this. However, the process was still very time consuming as a DIYer. I imagine that over time the tool gets faster and easier to use, especially for experienced paint pros. Be sure to take special care if you have lead-based paint. Even with a HEPA vacuum attached, not all dust was contained. Wear proper PPE and set up containment (6 mil poly) while using this tool. Getting EPA RRP certified is a great way to learn how to renovate safely. If you are doing a lead abatement project, check with your local regulations to see if a tool like this is permitted. Other options to address lead-based paint on your siding is to cover it with vinyl or safely remove and replace with new siding.
